Hunter Street and The River

In this photo you'll see that the river is running full and very muddy due to a few rain storms a few days earlier.

Sorry for the gap in photos lately... learn from my lesson here... when you go out and just start blindly shooting in a hurry... because it's cold... and you want to go home...

check your settings... and don't have your ISO on 1600!

I'm struggling to salvage enough photos to get me to Monday when, weather permitting, I can reshoot :(

On top of the railway bridge

Sorry no post yesterday... lost my internet connection then fell asleep waiting for it to magically reappear.

Ever wanted to know what it looks like up here?

along the railway footpath

I took this shot on a whim, not paying much attention... and then when I realised it was taken in B&W I though... "urgh"

But you know when I got the shot off the camera I really liked the texture, the tangle of the trees, and the reflection.

Changing Views: Jan

I'm taking a page from Marley at Cheltenham Daily Photo and Dusty Lens at North Metro and Beyond.... I'm sure there are others doing this too... I'm going to attempt to remember to take a photo in this location during the second week of the month, every month! I love the idea of watching how this scene might change.

The photo is taken from the old Cattle Pens or Bullring as it's also known, looking down to the Old Gaol.

January in England is a miserable month for photo taking!

Like many of my fellow Photo Bloggers here in England I'm struggling to stay inspired. The weather has been bitterly cold, today was the first day in over a week that it was above freezing, people are ice skating on lakes, ponds, rivers.. ice skating! unheard of! The sky is grey, and within minutes of leaving the house I'm ready to return and get that kettle on. I'm seriously lacking in fresh content but I will force myself out there, an ugly, bleak wintery photo is still a representation of this beautiful town held captive in a ugly, bleak winter.

This photo is taken from the "cattle pens" looking up the High Street past the Old Gaol and toward the Town Hall.

a perfectly proportioned house

one of my favourites in town... look at all the details at the door alone (you may want to click through and view large) the vertical letterbox, the bell pull, the centre door handle... I love it all!

mill reflection

Continuing with the trend of late posting... this is Sundays photo :)

The Sun was blazing bright and while I loved how it lit up the red brick of the old mill I was sure this photo would be full of fail. Well for the most part I was right... but what I never saw in the original setting was how beautiful the reflection was. So focus our attention on the lower half of the photo please :)

City Daily Photo: Best photo of the year 2008

Today is the first of the month and that means "Theme Day"! To start off 2009 the theme for January is "Best of 2008". Since starting this photo blog I have "met" so many wonderful people, and explored, through photo, so many different corners of the world. I struggle sometimes to be inspired to take photos, to make the effort... but the support and feedback from everyone makes it all worthwhile.

So back to "Best of 2008"... I found it difficult to choose a photo as "best" because this is only my 4th month doing this... so heres a selection!

According to number of comments this is the best:
Along the river, looking towards Sts Peter & Paul

Number of flickr views? That would be this one:
The Old Gaol

personal best? I do love this one!:

Please take the time to visit some of the other City Daily Photo sites, and explore somewhere new!
